While a sequel to Blizzard’s hit RTS game Warcraft III is still up in the air, fans of the game can still enjoy the updated and modernized version called Warcraft III: Reforged. This newer version will have better graphics, rebalanced units, and the availability of online custom games. It’ll also bring back the World Editor Tool. Warcraft III was the basis for a majority of World of Warcraft. So, keep in mind that where you roam and farm XP or WoW gold comes from this timeless masterpiece. It’s high time it actually gets a remaster or upgraded version, too!
Reforged promises to bring the experience of the original, but better! Yet you may be confused whether this is a remake or a remaster. Let’s clear that confusion in the next section.
Reforged: Does it Mean Remake or Remaster?
When comparing this game’s description on the Blizzard store with the one for Starcraft Remastered, you might notice that there are similar wordings and even features on both. Examples of that are the updated graphics and animations. However, Blizzard states that Reforged is ‘a remake in the truest sense’ and not a remaster.
So where do we draw the line between a remake and a remaster? From what we know about this upcoming game, the lines are still blurred. The phrase implies that there will be more than the superficial updates and new features. As the definition of the term says that remakes use completely different code and assets from the original. It contrasts with the definition of a remaster, where the original is kept intact with only minor upgrades to graphics.
What we can expect, if Warcraft III: Reforged is actually a remake, is improved gameplay and graphics almost unrecognizable from the original. Of course, at its core, it will still be the same game. Only time will tell.
Release Dates and Pre-Orders
A demo launched at Blizzconthis year, one that included the “Cull of Stratholme” campaign mission. If you missed the convention, you’re going to have to wait a year for its release. Pre-orders are available now, and ordering the Spoils of War edition gives you various extras for other Blizzard games. One of which is a ‘Meat Wagon’ mount for World of Warcraft. Other things you can get for other games are a Hearthstone card pack, Heroes of the Storm heroes, a Diablo III pet, and yet-to-be-announced Starcraft goodies.
As for the release date, all we know is that it will come out next year. Keep an eye out for future announcements regarding this. Blizzard had pretty much just announced it, and the demo seemed like it didn’t reveal anything noteworthy in its short play through. All we can do now is wait.
While waiting, continue enjoying Warcraft and World of Warcraft!
Summary: Warcraft III: Reforged is coming in the next year. It’s the same game with updated graphics, re-balanced unit strength, and new online matchmaking feature. Blizzard calls it a remake, but only time will tell if that’s true. It’ll be out next year so you can go on farming WoW gold or levels as you wait.
