The New God of War Initially Garnered A Lot Of Criticism says Cory Barlog.

The new God of War is probably the most anticipated game in 2018 and there is no doubt that it will be a smash hit but as Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog puts it, the game faced a lot of criticism initially.

Speaking to the Official PlayStation UK Magazine Issue # 140 when they showed the game for the first time a lot of people had something bad to say. They just didn’t feel that it had the God of War touch for a lot of reasons.

“Just a lot of people were very doubtful of what we were going to do. “This is not God of War, this is going to fall flat, this is really bad”.  I said: “Look, I believe in this and if it falls flat, it falls flat, I’m just going to be fully leaping off the cliff”.

It’s not like I begrudge them for having that fear because they are very worried that no one’s going to get this and everyone is going to think that this was just ill-advised. But I think that E3 2016 demo bolstered everybody and ignited their spirit and enthusiasm.”

There were comments that the game will be taking the Mass Effect Andromeda path, destroying a franchise in the process but from what we have seen so far, there is no reason to think like that. If it stays on the trajectory that it is on now, the game will surely be a fan favorite.

“As you move through the game you make choices about what you, or Kratos, wants for Atreus, about how you’re going to develop each of these characters. “

Cory says that this new “parenting” thing was a big focus for the Santa Monica studio. Kratos, for the first time, will have to think about something more than himself. It will be interesting to see how the players will accept this new approach. We are expecting to see God of War in the new Norse mythology environment in the first quarter of 2018.
