Intel’s 8th Generation Desktop CPUs to offer up to 25% Performance Boost in multi-threaded PC Games!

Intel has issued an official press release in which the company claimed that its new 8th generation desktop CPUs will be up to 25% faster than its 7th generation desktop CPUs in multi-threaded games. Intel used Microsoft’s Gears of War 4 as an example, in which the new Intel Core i7 8700K performed 25% faster than the Intel Core i7 7700K.

But first things first, here are the 8th generation desktop CPUs that will be released on October 5th.

As Intel pointed out, the i7 8700K will be Intel’s best desktop CPU for PC gaming. This CPU will offer up to 195fps in Gears of War 4 (provided that you are not GPU limited obviously) and will offer up to 25% performance boost in games like Gears of War 4.

In case you weren’t aware of, Gears of War 4 scales incredibly well on multiple CPU cores/threads. As we wrote in our PC Performance Analysis:

“Our simulated dual-core was able to run the in-game benchmark (at 1080p and on Ultra settings) with an average of 39fps, however we experienced a lot of stuttering that made the game unplayable. Our simulated quad-core, on the other hand, was able to push an average of 85fps, and our hexa-core ran it with an average of 115fps.

Things got really interesting when we enabled Hyper Threading. With Hyper Threading enabled, our simulated dual-core system was able to run the benchmark with an average of 61fps, and with minimal stuttering. Our simulated quad-core system pushed an average of 103fps, while our hexa-core system did not see any performance improvements.”

So yeah, while most games will not offer this 25% performance increase, there will be games (like the recently released Project CARS 2) that will benefit from this brand new CPU.

Intel also claimed that the i7 8700K will offer up to 32% faster 4K video editing compared to the i7 7700K.
