Here’s Why the Gaming Community is A Little Worried About The New God Of War. Erik Kain Explains Why we Should not Yet Step Aboard the Hype Train.

Sony showed off lots of new trailers for a pretty robust suite of upcoming games at the Paris Games Week Monday. One of them you can enjoy right up here. However, it could be wise to just wait a bit more before you buy your pre-order ticket for the hype train. Some concerns raised down below.

The new God Of War was one of the games shown off with a new trailer showing Kratos and his son.

Erik Kain has decidedly mixed feelings about it. He writes: On the one hand, I’m happy to see a reboot of the franchise. Like many, I’ve been playing God Of War since the beginning, and have enjoyed many of the games in the series, but there’s no denying that it was all getting a bit stale and dated. There hasn’t been much in the way of a real story, and the fixed-camera overhead camera, combined with far too many Quick-Time Events (QTEs) was getting old.

Don’t get me wrong, the old God Of War games had fantastic hack-and-slash combat, but it definitely felt like something needed to change for the franchise to feel new and exciting again.

What we have now is a pretty complete overhaul. The camera is pulled in to an over-the-shoulder third-person camera similar to many action games like The Last Of Us or Horizon Zero Dawn. Combat looks fast still (especially in the latest trailer) but still a far cry from what we’ve played in past games. I’m not sure if the game will be bloody and gory, either, as most of the enemies we’ve seen so far appear to have glowing orange lava-like substance instead of blood.

And, speaking of The Last Of Us, you now travel around with your son (or a boy who may or may not be Kratos’s son.) This could make for some interesting story twists and turns, but it also means that, at least in this trailer, the boy talks constantly to you, telling you to look out and various other exclamations. I could see this becoming annoying very quickly, as it became annoying just during the trailer itself.
