Electronic Arts is soon going to make its debut on Nintendo Switch with a dedicated version of FIFA 18, and they recently mentioned that the performance of the game is going to weigh on future support for the platform.
In order to understand how confident the development team is in the game, DualShockers talked with Producer Andrei Lazarescu, who mentioned that the release of a franchise like FIFA on Switch is a “win-win” for both Nintendo and Electronic Arts.
The team feels that the game is worth being the first EA game on Nintendo’s new console, and Lazarescu thinks that after its release, it’s going to be one of the “must have” titles on the console, alongside Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild.
While that’s certainly a bold claim, I have to say that having tried it at Gamescom, the title does feel really good, especially controls-wise, and it looks much better than I expected in portable mode. This is probably due to the fact that it uses a custom-built engine created for the Switch, supporting advanced features like physically-based rendering, and lighting that affects both the 3D grass and the crowd of the stadium.
FIFA 18 will release on Nintendo Switch on September 29th. It will also be available on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
